On the afternoon of October 19, 2026, the School of International Exchange at Jinzhong Institute of Information and Technology officially launched its first in-class session for international students this semester. Students from 18 countries around the world entered the classrooms, embarking on a new stage of Chinese language learning and cultural experience. This marks a solid step forward in the university’s international education and China-foreign cultural exchanges.

This semester, the international student body features diverse national origins. Young people from different countries and language backgrounds gather at the institute, reflecting the steady expansion of its international student education scale and showcasing an increasingly open, inclusive, and diverse international atmosphere on campus.

According to the teaching arrangements, students were divided into two classes. That afternoon, the classes focused on cultivating foundational Chinese language skills, covering modules such as listening, speaking, and comprehensive intensive reading. Starting with pinyin, tones, common expressions, and classroom language, teachers used pictures, situational dialogues, and read-along exercises to help students quickly adapt to the pace of Chinese-language classes. Students from Mongolia, with relatively similar foundations, actively interacted in class. Students from the United States, Germany, Russia, and North African countries joined the learning with their respective language habits, and teachers provided targeted guidance on pronunciation correction, Chinese character writing, and cultural background explanations.

In class, the international students practiced starting with “Nǐ hǎo” (Hello), “Xièxie” (Thank you), and “Lǎoshī hǎo” (Good morning/afternoon, teacher), and gradually attempted to introduce themselves, express their nationalities, and share their hobbies in Chinese. Although some students had zero foundation in Chinese, their enthusiasm for learning was high. The atmosphere was lively during teacher-student Q&A, deskmate practice, and group read-along sessions. Teachers emphasized integrating language teaching with cultural understanding, incorporating Chinese-style greetings, campus life, and Shanxi local customs into vocabulary and sentence patterns, enabling students to not only “learn Chinese” but also begin to “understand China.”

International student education is an important component of the institute’s efforts to promote educational openness and build a high-level application-oriented university. Since obtaining the qualification to enroll international students, the institute has continuously improved its training programs, daily management, cultural experience, and academic support systems. Adhering to the working philosophy of “building foundation through language, cultural immersion, standardized management, and warm-hearted service,” it helps international students quickly adapt to the learning and living environment in Jinzhong.

The smooth commencement of the first international student class this semester signifies the full rollout of the School of International Exchange’s international student teaching work for the new semester. Next, in addition to Chinese language teaching, the college will organize cultural experiences, teacher-student exchanges, and international culture exhibitions by leveraging the college-based residential college system, the Perfection Education program, and Shanxi’s regional cultural resources. This will facilitate students’ transition from “entering the institute” to “integrating into the institute,” nurturing them to become friendly ambassadors with cross-cultural communication skills.

Across mountains and seas, they come for learning; studying together in one classroom, they stride toward a new journey. The international students have already written the first line of Chinese characters of the new semester at Jinzhong Institute of Information and Technology, and will continue to write youthful stories of understanding China and connecting the world here.
